EN 1176, EN 1177 and EN 13219: what the standards require of an indoor playground

An indoor playground is manufactured to EN 1176, the European safety standard for playground equipment; its part 10 covers fully enclosed play equipment, which is what a soft play structure is. EN 1177 covers impact-attenuating surfacing and EN 13219 covers trampolines. Every playground we deliver comes with a certificate of conformity with EN 1176.

How often to inspect the playground under EN 1176-7

InspectionIndicative frequencyWhat is checked
Routine visualDaily in heavily used playgroundsBreakage, loose parts, dirt and foreign objects
OperationalEvery 1 to 3 monthsOperation, wear, connections, nets and padding
Annual mainOnce a yearThe overall level of safety of structure, equipment and flooring

The exact frequency is set in the user manual of each playground. We carry out inspections with a certificate, including playgrounds by other manufacturers, and the first-year inspection is included from the Standard quality level on playgrounds made by Multiplay.

Trampoline parks: EN 13219

The trampolines in a trampoline park fall under EN 13219, and the play areas around them under EN 1176. We explain it on our trampoline park manufacturing page.
